You won’t find a Michaels or Hobby Lobby in Albania, but that doesn’t mean you have to abandon your creative projects. Tirana and Vlorë both have independent art shops, fabric stores, stationery stores, markets, and inexpensive places to pick up the basics.
The main challenge is knowing where to look. This guide covers some of the best places to find paint, canvases, yarn, fabric, beads, sewing notions, and alterations in Tirana and Vlorë.
Art, Craft and Sewing Supplies in Tirana
Tirana has the widest selection, especially if you need professional art materials or something more specialized than a basic sketchbook.
Art and Painting Supplies
DKullolli Art Studio and Art Galeri Pecani are two good places to start for canvases, professional paints, brushes, paper, and other artist supplies.
New Office Albania is another useful shop with a surprisingly broad selection of creative and office materials.
For an even larger range, head to Casa Italia outside the city center. There is a large art-supply store on the basement level with materials for painting, drawing, crafting, and other creative projects.
Basic supplies are much easier to find. Search Google Maps for kancelari, the Albanian word commonly used for a stationery shop. These small stores usually carry sketchpads, colored pencils, markers, glue, scissors, paper, and children’s craft supplies.
Jumbo is also useful for coloring books, storage boxes, decorative materials, simple paints, and inexpensive craft kits.
For more specialized projects, try:
- Megatek for hardware, tools, and bendable aluminum armature wire
- E Kanceleri on Rruga Pjetër Bogdani for ink pads and office supplies
- Flying Tiger Albania for stamps, small tools, organizers, paper goods, and seasonal craft items

Beads and Jewelry-Making Supplies
Adorn Aksesorë Rrobaqepësie has a particularly good selection of beads, trims, jewelry parts, and sewing accessories. Klevi Akrelik is nearby, making this one of the most useful parts of Tirana for jewelry-making supplies.
You can also browse the small craft stalls across from Tregu 5 Maji. The selection changes, but prices can be lower than at dedicated shops.

Fabric and Sewing Supplies
A small fabric and curtain shop on Rruga Ferit Xhajko near the Dispanseria bus stop carries fabric, drapes, and household textiles.
For thread, zippers, buttons, trims, elastic, and other small sewing supplies, the shops around Adorn and Tregu 5 Maji are usually more useful than large department stores.
Art, Craft and Sewing Supplies in Vlorë
Vlorë has fewer specialist shops than Tirana, but you can still put together a surprisingly complete craft or sewing kit by combining department stores, stationery shops, markets, and local fabric stores.
Art and Painting Supplies
The basement level of Gama Market is one of the easiest places to begin. This three-story department store has a large art, office, and toy section with paints, paper, canvases, markers, and basic craft supplies.
There are also two art and office-supply shops close to Rossmann on the main boulevard. One has a decent selection of art and paper supplies, while the other focuses more heavily on standard office products.
The Euro Shop is useful for inexpensive paints, brushes, and small canvases. Quality varies, but it’s perfectly adequate for casual projects, experiments, or crafts with children.
Vlorë also has a Jumbo on Rruga Gjergj Arianiti. Its craft department is fairly basic, but you can usually find paper, glue, markers, paints, coloring supplies, organizers, and small kits.
Yarn, Knitting and Crochet Supplies
For yarn, head to Rruga Kosova, commonly called Banana Street. The street sits across the boulevard from Otofon and has several shops and vendors selling colorful skeins of yarn.
The selection can change from week to week, so it helps to bring a sample or photo of the weight and color you need.
You can also look for crochet hooks and knitting tools in the market alleys across from the Old Clock Tower. Individual hooks are often available, although sizes may be limited.
Zippers, Thread, Buttons and Sewing Notions
About halfway down Banana Street on the south side, there is a shop selling zippers, trims, thread, and sewing notions. Another shop across the street near the Vlorë fish market carries buttons and yarn.
Mega Store on Rruga Hajredin Haxhiraj is one of Vlorë’s better inexpensive general stores. It regularly carries sewing notions, tools, storage supplies, and gardening items.
If you need fabric by the meter, look for the small fabric shop near Jumbo. After turning off the boulevard, it will be a short walk down on the left.
For embroidery needles and floss, try the DMC shop on the boulevard. Basic prepacked sewing kits are also easy to find in Vlorë’s 150-lek shops.
Ordering Craft Supplies Online in Albania
Local stock can be unpredictable, especially if you need a particular crochet-hook size, bead color, embroidery pattern, cutting tool, or jewelry finding.
For smaller items, I’ve had good luck ordering craft and sewing supplies from Temu. It can be particularly useful for embroidery hoops, crochet sets, bead organizers, cutting mats, stamps, molds, storage boxes, and small sewing tools that are difficult to track down locally.

Tips for Finding Craft Supplies in Albania
✅ Search in Albanian
Google Maps doesn’t always categorize small local shops correctly. Try a few different searches:
- Kancelari for stationery and basic art supplies
- Aksesorë rrobaqepësie for sewing accessories
- Pëlhura or tekstile for fabric
- Materiale arti for art supplies
✅ Bring a Photo
Small shops may have exactly what you need even if the staff doesn’t recognize the English name. A photo usually works better than trying to translate a highly specific tool or material.
✅ Carry Cash
Independent shops, market stalls, and neighborhood tailors may not accept cards. Keep smaller lek notes with you, particularly when buying a few inexpensive items.
✅ Buy Extras When You Find Them
Stock changes frequently, and smaller shops may not restock the same colors, sizes, or brands. If you find the exact thread, yarn, paint, or tool you need, consider buying a spare.
Creative hobbies are completely possible in Albania. You may need to visit a few different shops instead of finding everything under one roof, but that search often leads you to small local businesses you would never notice otherwise.
