Tirana is not the kind of city where I would rent a luxury car just to casually float around town. Traffic can be intense, parking can be tough and the driving style is much more aggressive than what many Americans are used to.
On my first trip to Tirana, I wasted two hours circling the city trying to find parking and couldn’t find anywhere to stop for just 15 seconds to re-route my maps. I would not wish that on anyone!
Best Uses For Private Cars
- Airport arrival or VIP pickup
- Date night or anniversary dinner
- Wedding or proposal photos
- Private transfer to Vlorë, Dhërmi, or the Riviera
- Weekend drive to Lake Ohrid, Berat, or the coast
- Real estate viewings or developer meetings
- Visiting luxury hotels, rooftops, and private villas
The luxury car scene in Tirana is a little different from Dubai, London, or Miami. It is less polished, less app-based, and more relationship-driven. You may find options through rental agencies, WhatsApp, hotel concierges, private drivers, or local recommendations rather than a seamless app like Uber.
That is part of Albania’s charm and part of its chaos. The trick is to plan the important details in advance, especially if the car is for a special occasion.
Private Drivers
If you value both time and comfort, hiring a private chauffeur in Tirana is the ultimate way to bypass the city’s busy traffic and enjoy a stress-free experience.

Renting Your Own Car
Rental Companies
If you prefer having your own wheels to navigate Albania on your own schedule:

Parking
If you are renting a higher-end car in Tirana ask about parking before you plan the evening. Some luxury hotels and central restaurants may have private parking or staff who can help, but true valet service is not always clearly advertised online.
Airport Arrivals
Tirana International Airport is the main airport for Albania, and taxis and rental car services are available at the terminal. The drive into central Tirana is often around 20 to 25 minutes, depending on traffic.
Before booking a car or driver, check your flight times carefully. Late arrivals, summer delays, and luggage waits can change what kind of transfer makes the most sense.
If you are arranging a pickup by WhatsApp, an eSIM is critical for communications. Install it before landing so you are not trying to coordinate a driver on airport Wi-Fi.

When NOT to book a luxury car
I would not rent a luxury car in Tirana if your plan is mostly city-center cafés, bars, and restaurants. For that, taxis or a private driver are usually easier. Check out 15 Apps You WILL Need in Albania for my Taxi App recommendations.
For many visitors, the most luxurious option is not driving yourself.
It’s having someone else handle the traffic.
